We opened in January 1990. Most of our staff have NVQ Level 2 or 3, or are currently working towards one of these. The Deputy Manager has completed the new Early Years Professional Status (equivalent to degree level). All staff undergo a continuous programme of training and evaluation, including Child Protection and First Aid.
There are two separate buildings housing those aged six months to two years (Nursery), and two to five years (Pre-School). The Nursery has a main playroom, cot room, and toilet/changing room. The Pre-School has two play/rest rooms with adjoining child-size toilet facilities.
There is an enclosed garden, totally safety-surfaced, with the facility to separate older and younger groups if they are outside at the same time, and a covered area so that outdoor play can continue in all weathers.
OPENING HOURS
We are open 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday throughout the year, except for Bank Holidays. Please note that we close at 1.30 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Any children who would normally attend one of the afternoon sessions on these days are welcome to attend the morning session instead.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT: "LEARNING THROUGH PLAY"
- To value and celebrate children, their individuality, efforts and achievements
- To value and support the adults who live and work with children
- To ensure that all children feel included, secure and valued
- To teach children to respect each other, living things, and their environment
- To provide a well-planned and purposeful indoor and outdoor learning environment, accessible to all
- To allow children time to explore interests and ideas at their own pace
- To provide the right amount of adult intervention to engage children in the learning process
ACTIVITIES
We provide a varied and well-planned day, based on the guidelines set out by the government in the Early Years Foundation Stage. We have simple themes and celebrate the major festivals of all countries and religions. These are just some of the activities on offer:-
sand/water; physical/adventure play; imaginative/role play; music, singing, action songs and rhymes; creative (painting, sticking, craft); storytelling and poems (we have a large range of story sacks and big books); cooking; playdough and natural modelling materials; outings to the park, library and shops; threading, sorting and nesting; construction sets; heuristic play (under two's); pre-writing and number opportunities; book corner; wide range of educational games; discovery play/early science; a variety of treasure baskets and sensory experiences for the babies.
SETTLING IN [ - ][ + ]
When your child starts they will have their own keyworker. They will help your child settle in and be responsible for observing and recording their development. Settling in can be a gradual process over a period of time before the actual start date. You will receive a New Parent Pack which will give you full information about what to bring and what to expect, and will be invited to come in for a short induction and to meet staff before your start date.
HEALTH AND SAFETY [ - ][ + ]
There is a no-smoking policy that starts when you enter the main gate.
The majority of staff are trained in first aid procedures and hold three-year certificates.
A child who is unwell may pose a health risk to other children and adults and will not be able to cope with the nursery day. If a child falls ill during the day, we will contact you. We are fully aware of our responsibility to working parents, and try and achieve a balance between your needs, those of your child, and those of the other children, staff, and visitors to the nursery.
We are only able to give medication to a child with your written permission. We will ask you to sign a slip, giving details about dosage and frequency. Please remember to take medicine home at the end of each session.
If your child has an accident at nursery, we will contact you immediately.
MEALS AND SNACKS [ - ][ + ]
A two-course lunch is prepared and cooked on the premises. Much care is given to providing a balanced and nourishing diet. We cater for vegetarian and other special diets. Babies' food is liquidised. Snacks consist of fresh fruit, savoury or plain biscuits, and at tea-time the children have a selection of sandwiches, fresh fruit and salad vegetables. If you wish your child to avoid sugary foods, please just let us know.
CLOTHES AND PERSONAL ITEMS [ - ][ + ]
Please bring at least one complete change of clothing to keep on their peg (a named bag is provided). If potty training, a named potty is required. If your child still has formula milk, please bring ready-prepared in named bottles.
For the summer months, we also need you to provide a sun hat and sun cream. Please do not let your child bring sweets, crisps, money or anything of value to the nursery. They are welcome to bring any special toy or comforter, especially when settling in.
Please make sure that any jewellery worn is safe for the child and will not come loose. The nursery cannot accept responsibility for any item of jewellery that is lost or damaged.
Please dress your child comfortably and sensibly - for example, in pull-down joggers when potty training. Although we use aprons and washable paints and glue, it should be noted that some fabrics may stain.
POTTY TRAINING [ - ][ + ]
We work in partnership with you when your child reaches this stage. As a general rule, it is better to avoid potty training just before your child starts nursery. In the excitement of a new environment, accidents are common. In the interests of hygiene, we reserve the right to ask you to keep your child in a nappy until they are reasonably reliable. We only provide nappies in the Nursery - please bring in a named supply for your child in the Pre-School.
COLLECTION [ - ][ + ]
It is very important to let us know in advance if someone else will be collecting your child. If you are going to be late, please make every effort to arrange for someone else to collect your child on time, and let us know. There are penalty fees for late collections, see below.
TRANSFER [ - ][ + ]
Children are introduced to the Pre-School gradually from about age 22 months. We aim to transfer children from the Nursery to Pre-School the week following their second birthday. If the Pre-School is very full, there may be a delay of up to two weeks.
REGISTRATION [ - ][ + ]
A completed registration form and one-off £30 registration fee per family is required to join the waiting list.
We will contact you if a place becomes available. In the meantime, you are welcome to telephone to check on how the waiting list is progressing.
If we have not been able to confirm a start date by your required time, please let us know if you wish to remain on the waiting list. If we do not hear from you we will assume that you have found a place elsewhere and remove your name.
Please note that once a start date has been agreed, fees become payable from this date even if there is a delay on your part in starting.
A minimum of two sessions a week is suggested to aid the settling-in process.
DEPOSIT [ - ][ + ]
A deposit of two week's fees is payable once a place has been confirmed. This is non-refundable if you do not start unless four weeks written notice has been given. It will be credited against fees once you start.
TEMPORARY BOOKINGS [ - ][ + ]
We do not normally take temporary bookings because of the possible disruption to the child.
PAYMENT OF FEES [ - ][ + ]
All fees are payable on the first day of the week that the child attends, unless by written arrangement. You may pay for several weeks in advance, or by standing order (payable monthly at the beginning of the month). Please ask for a form.
Please note that your weekly fee is payable in full whether or not your child attends, and whether or not a Bank Holiday falls during the week.
There is a small penalty charge for fees not paid by the Friday of each week, and each subsequent week, unless you have not been to the nursery because your child has been ill.
There is a £10 charge for cheques returned to us by the bank unpaid, and for refunds that need to be made on standing orders (unless due to nursery error).
OVERTIME CHARGES [ - ][ + ]
Bringing or collecting your child outside of the normal session hours for which they are registered carries a penalty of £6 per quarter (or part-quarter) hour. Please note that the doors are locked at 6 p.m. on the dot!
EXTRA SESSIONS [ - ][ + ]
Extra sessions or hours may be available at short notice. These will be charged at the session or hourly rate and added on to your usual weekly fee.
CHANGES TO SESSIONS [ - ][ + ]
Permanent changes to sessions must be confirmed with the Manager. Please note that if you are reducing the number of sessions, four week's notice in writing is required.
Extra one-off sessions may be available, depending on the availability of places. Please ask. These will be charged at the prevailing session rate.
FEE INCREASES [ - ][ + ]
Fees are reviewed annually, and there may be an increase.
NOTICE PERIOD [ - ][ + ]
The notice period is four weeks and must be in writing. (This also applies where the number of sessions is being reduced, see above)
INCLUSION STATEMENT [ - ][ + ]
We believe in equality of opportunity for all. Our aim is to ensure that all children fulfil their potential by offering a flexible system of learning, teaching and resourcing that removes barriers to full participation.
We recognise that children have a right to have any special educational needs identified and addressed, and that these children require the same access to a broad and balanced range of play opportunities as their peers.
A positive equal values policy is demonstrated and reinforced by all staff at all times.
Resources are chosen to give a balanced view of the world and an appreciation of the rich diversity of our multi-racial society. This will be reflected in our environment.
Because we value diversity and meet a wide range of needs, the achievements of all our children will be enhanced

"After spending many years being a career woman, the birth of my lovely son Alex prompted me to take stock and gave me time to think about what was important to me. The answer was to spend as much time as possible with my adorable son. So the challenge began to find a new professional direction I could combine with motherhood. During many conversations with friends, a common thread of frustration became apparent; we could not find gorgeous timeless accessories for our children's rooms or toys that were reminiscent of our own childhood. I was struggling to find interesting, different pictures and toys for my son, Alex. I wanted to buy things that will last a long time and are 'for keeps'; things that he will enjoy growing up with and one day can pass on to other members of our family or become heirlooms. So after much research and thought, I have affectionately selected small, independent suppliers and designers with that little something different to offer."
"Myvoxsongs is us, husband and wife team, Emma and Olly. Having both worked in the online and music industry, we started to create short cartoon films ourselves which we felt visually entertained, babies, toddlers and young children and where the music was as close to what we remembered from our own childhoods."
